Need Help with Hal Character

I installed Ultra HAL 5.0, but can't get any of the detachable characters to work. I keep getting the following message:
Error loading agent character-2147417843-1: An outgoing call cannot be made since the application is dispatching an input-synchronous cal
Anybody got any advise or fixes?

Just in case anyone else out there was having the same problems above that I was. After searching around on the internet I read that if could be caused by being called up from the taskbar. So I changed the setting on how Ultra Hal starts up in the general options to "I want Hal to start like a normal program from the start menu. Hal will not be accessed from the system tray but rather from a window that appears.
